What is Batik?
​Batik is a traditional wax-resist dyeing technique used to create intricate patterns and textures on fabric. The process begins with carefully prepared material, sometimes dyed with a base color, ready to become a canvas for art.

Using tools like a canting (a spouted pen) or cap (a copper stamp), hot wax is applied to the fabric to outline designs. Wherever the wax is placed, the fabric resists dye, preserving the original color beneath. Multiple rounds of waxing and dyeing allow artists to build up layers of color, complexity, and depth.

Once the design is complete, the wax is carefully removed—revealing unique patterns, vibrant colors, and the signature crackled textures that make batik so distinctive. Each finished piece is then washed, dried, and ready to wear—a truly one-of-a-kind creation.
